Loyola Center for Conflict Resolution – Presentation on Art Therapy
This month LACFLA Board members, together with the Loyola Center for Conflict Resolution staff and Collaborative Clinic students, received an in-person presentation on art therapy. Jessica Bianchi, an Assistant Professor at Loyola Marymount University, and the Clinical Director of the Helen B. Landgarten Art Therapy Clinic, educated the attendees who were asked to draw, paint, mold, create and most importantly discuss their works. Professor Bianchi helped us recognize how art therapy can be used as an effective tool of communication, insight and understanding within the collaborative and mediation processes. Each attendee remarked on how the experience evoked a positive response.
The evening was capped off with a dinner by sunset on the lawn. We look forward to collaborating with the Art Therapy Clinic this semester, as art therapy students will join the collaborative professionals providing support to families attending the collaborative clinic.
The art therapy program has also graciously agreed to offer free art therapy services to the children of the parents attending the clinic. We are appreciative of the opportunities to deliver additional support to families while broadening the resources and relationships with our community organizations.
As the Collaborative Clinic will be working to help families this Fall, please be sure to direct appropriate cases to them. If you are contacted by modest means families who can use the assistance of Loyola’s Center for Conflict Resolution and the Collaborative Clinic, please have them call (213) 736-1145.
Thank you.
